Adam Benton has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and his court of honor was held at Westgate Baptist Church on October 7, 2018.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout Adam had to Earn the 13 required merit badges and 8 others to have the required number of at least 21 merit badges. Along the trail to Eagle, Adam had to complete his Star project which was a tomahawk target for Troop 122, a Life project which was a New Chuck Box design for Troop 122 and last but not least, his Eagle project for which he installed a new fence at the BISD Ag Farm in Beaumont, TX to keep the livestock out of the proposed orchard area. Adam, a member of the “Bulls Patrol” of Troop 122, directed and led his fellow scouts, friends, and family in their efforts to help construct the fence. This was a several month undertaking which commenced in early March and was completed April 25, 2018. The construction consisted of dodging rainstorms, measuring and designing the fence, driving fence posts, and attaching wire cloth and runners at BISD’s Ag Education facility. Adam Benton and his crew put approximately 424 labor hours into the project. The agricultural teacher was pleased with the quality of workmanship undertaken by Adam and his friends and the projects end result.
Mr. Balentine was the Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Hamilton offered the Eagle Charge. There was a reception that immediately followed in the foyer of the church.
In addition to earning the rank of Eagle Scout, Adam also holds the distinction for earning the triple crown in high adventure. He has waded through hip-deep moose muck at Nothern Tier Bissette surviving Heartbreak, summitted Mount Baldy at Philmont Scout Ranch, and sailed the ocean blue out of Seabase Bahamas. Adam has chosen adventure over comfort.
Jared has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. His court of honor was held at the St Jude’s Thaddeus Catholic Church on Saturday, August 25th, 2018.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout Jared had to Earn the 13 required merit badges and 8 others to have the required number of 21 merit badges, not only did meet the requirements he exceeded them. Along the trail to Eagle Jared had to complete his star project, helping the Art Museum of SE Texas by revitalizing their flower beds, a Life project which was building benches for students at BISD’s Lucas Pre-K School, and last but not least, he completed his Eagle project for which he made equestrian stands and a storage box to be used in therapy for Stable-Spirit located in Vidor, TX. Jared, a member of the “Thunder Cats Patrol” of Troop 122, directed and led his fellow scouts and friends in their efforts to construct these stands to help improve the quality of treatment and training for the horses involved with Stable-Spirit’s therapy. This was a several week undertaking commenced in early June and was completed June 18, 2018. The construction consisted of Cutting, laying out, fitting, and constructing two step boxes and one storage box for use at Stable-Spirit’s facility. Jared Young and his crew put approximately 164 labor hours into the project. Stable-Spirit is delighted with the quality of workmanship undertaken by Jared and his crew and the end result. Stable-Spirit is one of the area’s only equestrian therapy locations assisting children and individuals with special needs through Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
Mr. Hamilton offered the Eagle Charge, and Mr. Young gave an eloquent summary of Jared’s time in scouts. In a surprising turn of events. Mr. Young thanked Pam and Bob for their help with scouting and Jared presented Mrs. Johnson with a bouquet of flowers. There was a reception that immediately followed.

Life Scout William is in the final phases of his Eagle Project. More than one Scout has said, “It’s hard to describe with words.”, but you have to see how cool this is. What William and his Scouting friends have created for Marshall Middle School’s technology class with a maker-space feel is an Augmented Reality Sandbox. His project is a next level integration of technology and a potent teaching tool.
The Officer Bryan Hebert Memorial Foundation helped defray the expense of the equipment. William led Scouts and friends to turn a Microsoft Kinect, a PC running MintOS, an LCD projector and of course a sandbox with sand in it into an auto-updating topographical map.
The only drawback is William is the expert on this new unit, and if something goes haywire his facetime will light up, this may be the project that never ends. Or it could be the launching pad for a career in technology.
